Wildlife Food Plot Clearing

Boerne, TX

Project Overview

A Boerne landowner wanted to anchor a future wildlife food plot around a mature oak that was being crowded by heavy cedar. The plan was to open up roughly a 30-yard radius around the tree and leave a plantable bed of ground around it.

Scope of Work

  • Selectively cleared cedar in a 30-yard radius around the oak
  • Forestry mulched material in place as light ground cover
  • Worked carefully around the oak's drip line and root zone
  • Prepped the ground for future food plot planting

Terrain & Site Conditions

Gently rolling Hill Country ground with rocky soil and moderate slopes around the oak — typical Kendall County conditions where rock and grade dictate equipment movement.

Challenges & Considerations

Working that close to a mature oak puts the root system first. We staged passes to keep weight off the drip line and watched the slope so nothing got pushed into the trunk. Selective clearing means knowing what to leave, not just what to take.

Result

Open ground around a healthier oak, ready for planting. Better light, better access, and a setting that will draw and hold wildlife once the plot goes in.
