Selective Cedar Clearing & Forestry Mulching
Project Overview
Several acres of this Boerne property were carrying heavy cedar growing in under mature oaks. The owner wanted the cedar managed back but the native species — mountain laurel, agarita, persimmon — left alone. This was selective land management, tree by tree, not a clear-cut.
Scope of Work
- Walked the property and marked keepers before starting
- Forestry mulched cedar selectively across several acres
- Preserved mountain laurel, agarita, persimmon, and mature oaks
- Improved visibility, access, and overall appearance
Terrain & Site Conditions
Mixed Hill Country terrain with rolling slopes. Some sections held heavy surface rock, others were nearly clean — the equipment approach changed by section.
Challenges & Considerations
Selective work is slower than going wide-open and asks more of the operator. Every pass is a call — which cedar comes out, which native stays, how close to push the mulcher to a knee-high mountain laurel. We took the time to get it right.
Result
Cedar is thinned out, the oaks have room, and the native understory that makes the place special is still there. The property is more usable and still looks like Hill Country.
